________
BIPOC Rocks is a BIPOC women-led, volunteer run nonprofit organization working to advance equity in outdoor recreation. We are dedicated to empowering underrepresented communities through four pillars.
1. Increase BIPOC leadership by offering scholarships to individuals pursuing professional certifications in guiding and instruction.
2. Uplift racialised instructors and guides by creating meaningful work opportunities and mentorship networks that foster long-term success.
3. Empower underrepresented climbers through free, accessible climbing education that builds confidence and skills in a supportive environment.
4. Foster community engagement through inclusive gatherings that cultivate connection, belonging, and collective growth.
________
We envision a community transformed.
A future where power is redistributed, leadership reflects the diversity of our communities, and the systems that have historically excluded Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) are dismantled.
Our vision goes beyond representation. We are working toward a community rooted in equity, care, and collective growth—one where BIPOC communities don't just participate, but lead, thrive, and belong.
________
We are more than a rock climbing program—we are equity in action.
We recognize that climbing, like many outdoor spaces, has been shaped by systems of colonialism, patriarchy, and white supremacy. These systems continue to influence who belongs, who participates, and who leads. We exist to challenge and change this reality.
Our work sits at the intersection of outdoor recreation and social justice. Our community-led program creates a pipeline where today's learner becomes tomorrow's leader. Participants build critical awareness, learn from leaders who share their lived experience, and deepen their connection to the land and their community. As they move into leadership, they carry these learnings beyond BIPOC Rocks into their own communities, into the commercial guiding industry, and into the broader outdoor spaces they inhabit, creating a ripple effect that is felt far beyond the crag.
________
We practice care, accountability and a commitment to growing together.
We intentionally operate non-hierarchically because we do not believe equitable communities can be built through the same structure that produced inequity.
As a small, volunteer-led organization, our work is deeply relational, community driven, and grounded in collective care. We are committed to growing in ways that are sustainable, intentional, and accountable to the communities we serve.
